This was a -19.7% decrease over the previous month’s average new car dealer to dealer trade index price and we are showing an 8% increase in new car inventory over the previous month.
The last time we had seen nearly 1.7M units on the ground was between May and June of 2021.
Although the average new car trade index price is dropping, certain selling dealers are still able to command prices well over invoice. Toyota, Ford, and Subaru dealers are receiving over $3,000 over invoice, on average, for their new units. This is happening while Buick, Dodge, and Jeep dealers are all selling their units under invoice, on average, to other new car dealers.
